Plymouth Citybus 5000’s

The first batch of double decker's in the new 5000 series are these Enviro 400s from Stagecoach London, with several now running in Plymouth in plain red livery. Presumably these will receive full Citybus livery when they get single door conversions in due course. Here are a selection of photos from the last few days in town

Back up and running

I am now finally back up and running with a new PC which can actually cope with the large files I have to go through and can do more than just open a few pages on the internet before it gives up with lack of memory (Sorry if you caught any of the test posts that were being made this morning while I was trying to get my Editor to recognise Blogger)

I seem to have lost the red background in the process but I can live with that…

I have some catching up on photos to do so in the meantime we have my first decent shots of the single door conversion by Plymouth Citybus of their London Enviros. Compared with previous years they have done a great job!

Easing into Plymouth

E400s from London

The large batch of Enviro 400s from London have started to arrive at Milehouse. E18 16 22 21 31 30 are seen above round the back of the depot.

E400s from London

E19 - this bus was featured here a few days ago when the news of their impending arrival broke

E400s from London

E24.

The first of them is already in the bodyshop being worked on so it probably wont be long before we start seeing them out on the road. Its looking likely that some at least will enter service as dual door buses. Whether we will then see some getting the full single door conversion later on remains to be seen.

Thanks to Jason for the photos!

More New Buses for Kernow!

For many years Cornwall was at the end of the list for any new investment by First Group. How things have changed!

The latest new buses are now entering service in the smart green livery including these two smart Enviro 400s caught on camera by Tom Carter:

There are also some E200s in green and a few E400s in blue livery I believe.

Very impressive.

New For Kernow

After the last couple of years has seen massive investment in new buses for Plymouth by both Go Ahead and Stagecoach its easy to take new buses for granted. However the arrival of brand new buses for First in Cornwall is very big news! The first ten of the new Enviro 400MMCs are due to enter service on Friday this week in their extremely smart blue livery.

Thanks to Tom Carter for sending as these photos: “The vehicle registration number is WK66BZA and the fleet number is 33476. These buses will go live next Friday and they're 10 of these with 3 of the ex park and ride Plymouth buses also resprayed in the same colour as the MMCs.”

Less than a month to go…

Still looking to the near future we get a sneak preview of the first batch for new buses for Kernow thanks to their facebook page…

You can click through the above image to their Facebook page to view their other photos.

As usual the comments on the Facebook page are “interesting” to say the least. It always amazes me how just uninformed some people are, and how sure those people are, that they know what they are talking about.

Some useful things we do learn though are that the The first 10 are for the U1/2/3 and will go into service on 4 November in this stunning blue livery. The next 20 are for the 14/18 and are due around New Year and will be red.

Dennis Darts

Many of the older Dennnis Darts are currently VOR at Milehouse with many of them due to visit Hants & Dorste at Eastleigh for DDA conversion when they should re-enter service.

Back on 6th February the position was as follows:

29, 31, 32, 33, 34, 38, 39, 40 in the line up at bottom of lower yard. All VOR. 35 with withdrawn buses behind the old tram sheds. VOR. 36 in rear workshops behind door 7.  37 in front workshops over the pits. 41 and 43 in engineering line. both VOR 42 engine repairs over pits in raised depot. 29 back from Hants and Dorset trim, a quick look through the open doors didn't reveal anything that might have been done to it. 30 was noted in service on the 8th February at least.

Volvo DD Fleet

The double deck Volvo fleet: 420 W509WGH has been sold and appears to have left Milehouse. 441 has also finally left Milehouse and arrived with Target Travel. 416 has now been lettered up as a DRIVER TRAINER

New Coaches

There has been some confusion with a batch of new Volvo B11RT / Plaxton Elite Interdeck coaches for Megabus. It has been well known that Plymouth was to become a major base for Megabus work and a few of these new coaches were recently placed into service with Stagecoach Devon legal lettering.

54271 YY65VXN [Photo]

Since then the batch has continued up to 54276. The whole batch now seem to run under Midland Red South control. It is believed that some of these may come back under Devon control eventually but there have been conflicting reports! These coaches are now regular visitors to Plymouth on Megabus work and do look very smart even if the Megabus livery is a bit cartoony for some! Stagecoach 54276 YY65VXT

Also Delivered this week, was the first of the Plaxton Elite Volvo B11R's, for the new service to Bristol, 54319 YY65VXU, the second One 54320 YY65VXV should be delivered this evening (10th)

New Double Deckers

The first of the Standard Enviro 400MMC's 10488 SN65ZHB has arrived  10th January. This batch 10488-503 are to be in Standard MMC style Fleet livery, whilst also due soon are 10457-62, which have been diverted from an Order for Manchester, These are to Carry Park & Ride Livery and will be fitted with Leather Seats and Wifi.

531 briefly goes Cornwall

The last post illustrated the new concept livery for First Kernow, or BusKernow if the livery is to be adopted. The same event in Cornwall saw another smart Enviro DD, this time Plymouth Citybus 531 in full swoops with Go Cornwall names:

This was just for the event as 531 is now back in Plymouth with standard Citybus logos.

Enviro News

The Plymouth Citybus Enviro 400 fleet have been seeing a few changes recently:

We start off with a last chance to see the three Flash colours together in a posed photo shoot laid on by Plymouth Citybus before 504 enters the paintshop this week:

Yellow Red Blue Flash

501 and 502 are still out in plain red (I believe) with 503 the first to get the full RED FLASH treatment. You will note the slight difference with the others as the "Up to every 10 minutes" lettering is missing from the rear wedge. The reason these have been repainted red is due to the increase in frequency for much of the route.

Meanwhile you may just notice a subtle change for these two...

Plymouth Citybus 517 WG63HHV

Plymouth Citybus 518 WG63HHW

They have actually swapped identities so in effect have now swapped fleet numbers as can be seen from these older photos:
