Citycoach: The End

CUSTOMER UPDATE

Wednesday 24th June 2020

The very sad decision has been taken to close Plymouth Citycoach, the holiday and day trips company owned and operated by Plymouth Citybus.

We are deeply sorry for the disappointment and sadness this will cause our customers.

The company has been operating since the 1980s but has fallen victim to the financial repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Plymouth Citycoach had to suspend its programme of day trips and holidays in March for safety reasons and had already cancelled all holidays and trips up to and including this September. Staff have been working remotely to refund customers in full for their cancelled holidays and trips and the process of refunding all bookings is still underway and will take some weeks.

Plymouth Citycoach operated as a member of Bonded Coach Holidays, with adherence to its charter and strict financial procedures and all monies will be refunded to customers in due course.

The closure of Plymouth Citycoach potentially affected seven staff and will unfortunately result in the loss of six jobs, as during the redundancy consultation process with staff, one offer of alternative employment within Plymouth Citybus was taken up.

The closure is the result of the severe financial pressure the entire coaching industry has come under over the last three months. The loss of passenger booking income, remaining overheads such as coach maintenance, insurance and depreciation costs for its fleet and the potential introduction of social distancing measures reducing coach capacities, has eroded the viability of the business.

Plymouth Citybus MD Richard Stevens commented:

'We are devasted that we have had to make this decision and deeply regret the loss of the jobs of our colleagues, all loyal and long-serving staff, but we were faced with no other option due to the effects of the pandemic.

'I would like to thank most sincerely our customers for their support for Plymouth Citycoach over many years and I do appreciate that they will feel the loss of holiday and breaks programme very keenly.'

Customer refunds with be dealt with by Plymouth Citybus staff, in date order of holiday and customers do not need to make contact with the company at this point. Please be patient, we are working as hard as we can to refund many bookings and please rest assured we will get to yours.

Emergency e mail contact can be made via: Customer.experience@plymouthbus.co.uk or on 01752 662271.

Thank you again for your valued past support and for your patience and understanding during these difficult times.

Country Bus reduce in Brixham

You’d think it would be nice to report some timetable changes that are NOT COVID related – but if you are relying on buses in Brixham – then this maybe not so welcome.

Three cancellations all from Country Bus have been registered on DVSA.

Licence  Route  Start Point  End Point  Effective  Notes OPERATOR
PH1017984.076 14 Roselands Brixham Community College 31-Jul-2020 Cancellation Accepted ALANSWAY COACHES LTD

PH1017984.071 16 Brixham Bank lane, Ranscombe, South Bay Holiday Park Brixham Bank Lane 31-Jul-2020 Cancellation Accepted ALANSWAY COACHES LTD

Now I say they are not COVID related, but us this the start of bus operators having to reassess their marginal services as they start to plan their financial recovery from lockdown, or is this a tender thing and they will be picked up by someone else?

On a second not is anyone else able to view timetables on Traveline South West at the moment? as I cant!

Brightening the mood

Its nice to see yet another bit of Brighton & Hove back on our streets. I still miss the old Tridents which were firm favourites of mine. I missed the chance of catching this one on my first bus trip out since March as it didnt appear on the tracker so I caught the earlier bus for my appointment. It did at least give me 20 mins outside Tesco in the pouring rain to get some pictures…

plymouth Citybus 1204 YN57FYF

1204 seen at Tesco Transit Way this week on the 51, at least one other was also on the route.

My own bus was this fine example looking good in full swoops

Plymouth Citybus 463 LX06EZP

It does seem really odd catching buses under the new rules. Apart from the fact that wearing masks is horrible (but I did keep it on) it was very lonely. For much of my ride I was the only one on the top deck – but then when a young lady got on she had the choice of the whole top deck and yet still managed to sit less than two meters away!

Coming out of Covid…

I have managed to catch up on most service changes now, well at least those that have been reported through DVSA site at least – There are clearly many more that have not (or maybe never will?) appear there.

It does seem that services in Cornwall by and large have all been reported but in Devon its a lot more hit and miss. I am starting to tackle Stagecoach timetables this week which should be fun!

As usual feel free to click through to the main pages where you will find links to timetables and past history etc.

Stagecoach Increase services next week

We are pleased to announce that, in light of the recent government announcement to relax retail restrictions, from 15th June 2020 we will be introducing a major uplift to our services with some of our routes returning to their normal timetables.
You will notice some changes on board our vehicles to enable social distancing to take while you travel with us. To allow this to take place safely, some of our seats will be blocked off to allow you to sit at least 2 metres away from other passengers. We are currently closely monitoring our services and adding additional buses in to provide extra capacity when needed and then, by returning to our previous service levels in most cases, this will allow a much better frequency than what is currently in place as we try and keep people moving safely. For more information on travelling safely by bus please visit here
Below you will find a summary of the timetables we will be operating from the 15th June. For some areas, this will mean a return to the timetable you had before the COVID19 outbreak however, some services have more buses than the current emergency timetables but are slightly less frequent than your pre COVID19 timetable and some routes do have a completely new timetable and these are listed below.
Some of these changes have been made in response to changing needs and travel patterns, to allow better connections for shift workers and to improve reliability.
Full details are highlighted below for North Devon, Exeter, Plymouth and Torbay.

New timetables are now available to download for all routes.

Please be aware that Night buses N12, N21 and N57 and dedicated school services across our network will not be operating until further notice.
