A Day with the PCTPG Part 1

PSV Circle Weekend - The rides

Its late and I am shattered after a very long but fun weekend with the PSV Circle AGM Tour on Friday Saturday and Sunday. Over the course of the three days I have taken over 800 photos so its going to be a while before they are all processed so photos from the weekend will be appearing over a long period of time!

To start off though I have the vehicles which were provided to transport us as a group over the weekend, all performing faultlessly…

UWV614S gave a great ride over to the PCTPG collection on Friday. It was a short ride but the weather was perfect as was the bus. R380LGH was our main steed on Saturday for the long haul up to Exeter and back. It was very warm and a bit cramped to say the least but again it did a good job and managed all the hills with a full load.

2701HP One of two buses we used within Exeter before getting R380LGH back for the run home. Very comfortable bus with better seats and more leg room! The star of the trip for a short ride within Exeter. A superb machine. Target Travel gave us this former Plymouth Citybus Volvo for Sunday morning, seen here at Target Travel's base. I didn't ride on her myself as I opted for comfort... H13TCL was immaculate inside and out and very comfortable. Used on Sunday although seen here on Friday at the PCTPG / Tamar Coaches base. Finally on Sunday Afternoon we had former Plymouth Citybus TTT168X and current Citybus 704

All in all it was a great weekend. Special thanks to Dave Godley and Brian Madge for the hard work which went into it. I am sure they are glad its all over! Special thanks also to the team at PCTPG and the drivers.

Opting Out, Opting In

Thanks to Andrew Tyldsley for keeping us up to date with with Optare Solos that recently departed Plymouth Citybus:

The five former Plymouth Citybus "long" Optare Solo now with Go North East are all being allocated to their Stanley Depot, for improved services between Stanley and the Metrocentre shopping complex that start on the 21st May, requiring 5 buses instead of the current 3. They have been painted in the modern day version of the "Venture" livery used by Go North East for its minibus services from Stanley depot (Venture Transport Company was a well known independent operator taken over by Northern in 1970). However, they will not be carrying the Venture branding, but special branding for the Metrocentre services which will be applied closer to the time of the service changes. In order to release other buses for new contracts, they have entered service on the existing routes. They have been kept together at one depot as they are non-standard in the Go North East fleet by virtue of having Cummins engines (the other 85 Solo in the Go North East fleet have Mercedes engines).

710 is seen leaving Stanley Bus Station on the half hourly service 30 to Lanchester, on which some of the buses are being used prior to the increased requirements on 21st May.

712 is seen on the Team Valley Trading Estate on one of the works services that Go North East operate to this large Business Park (the main through road is over 1.5 miles in length). As the Metrocentre does not open until 1000 some buses are used for other duties first.

But fret not any Solo Fans, as there are still plenty around in Plymouth with Target Travel still happy to pick them up. One of the latest to arrive and in the new livery is YJ54UCA which was until recently with APL Travel

Talking of Target Travel, they are just one of the operators I hope to be visiting over this weekend with the PSV Circle AGM / local tour. If any of you are joining us for that, see you there!

Mendip Mule

Derek Gawn has supplied details of his services in East Devon at the end of May which I thought you might like advance notice of in view of the buses he is running…

27th MAY TO 4th JUNE DAILY

These will be the 3 buses covering our opening period of the season - two running on any given day, with the third as back up spare - hourly service (see the yellow timetable here). The first day is expected to be flagship TDL 564K (subject to weather) and UWV 614S.

All other days are expected to be BJG 674V & UWV 614S. Subject, as usual, to mechanical availability of course.

Drivers will include Matt Godwin, Chris Randall, Mike Rogers, Alan 'Tebzy' Tebbitt and myself of course.

The service will then continue on Mondays to Thursdays throughout June, as a one bus service (see the blue timetable here), using either TDL 564K (fine days only) or BJG 674V.

Meanwhile if you fancy getting more involved….

VOLUNTEERS WANTED ON SATURDAY 20th MAY.
I (Derek Gawn) am planning a publicity blitz of our patch on this date. Single handed this task can take me the best part of a week, but with a team we could do it in one day. Do you fancy helping out? I am afraid there will be no payment but everyone who helps will receive 2 free day tickets to use sometime this summer. The plan is to leave Colyton at 8.45am and meet up at Axminster Station at just after 9am. We will use the open top single decker as transport from place to place, which in itself will turn heads - at each town and village splitting up and delivering a poster and a handful of leaflets to each shop, hotel, holiday park etc - I will provide a lunchtime on bus buffet and refreshments - and we will be back at Axminster by 6pm and Colyton at 6.15pm. Ideally I am looking for a team of 10 or 12 people - more hands make light work and all that! Any takers? Thank you. Derek
