The Last day of First

As promised a bumper selection of photos from myself and others that have been sent in all taken on the last day of First in Plymouth. I hope this conveys the flavour of what was an excellent and affectionate send off. Thanks to all who supplied the photos.

Dwarfed by the majestic bridges at Saltash Passage. The 6 and 7 routes were the ones I grew up with and went to school on. It was the Bristol FLFs and then the nice new VRs which led to me becoming a bus spotter.

The end of a Wright old saga

Its funny. I have always hated these buses. With a few exceptions they hate hills, are noisy and most of them have really uncomfortable seats. I like the look of them, the Wright body is a bit of a classic design, but the whole product is poor and not a good example of what can be done. I have so many photos of these buses as they have been mainstay of the Plymouth fleet since they were new back in a time when First were still buying regular batches of new buses for us down here.

However, for the first time ever I was kind of hoping to get a few shots of these today. When you take a photo of one of your local buses you never know if it will be the last photo you get of that bus. Well today may well be the last time for these buses, and a few others I caught on camera today. I cant imagine may other First Group companies will want them.

This is all still a bit confusing! Traveline only have the Plymouth – Mount Batten route timetables but the Stagecoach web site still says the route is Saltash to Mount Batten. I have tried the Stagecoach web site. You select the location as Saltash and it does indeed offer you 2 2A. You then need to select the date and time you want to travel (why?? ) and then you select Search : “We are experiencing a technical problem, please try searching again later.” I have had this for a while now. I know of someone else who gave up as well. They were hoping to get some printed timetables next week.

Its all a bit confusing at the moment. VOSA have recorded changes from the 20th September only but it appears that permission has been granted to bring forward the start of the 42C into Woolwell to the 6th September as thats when the First 15 ends.

Traveline has maps from 6th September for the 42C:

but as I type this the timetable still link tot he old timetables. To add to the confusion the new timetable on Plymouth Citybus states as start date of 30th August, but of course you cant download those which is really annoying. I much prefer a printout to using the mobile

  • Buses stop on Saltash Road for those wanting to get to Plymouth Railway Station
  • If you work at The Land Registry or the Plymouth City Council Windsor House offices the 100 also stops on Tavistock Road (Future Inn stop towards Plymouth and the Windsor House by B&Q/M&S towards The George)
  • If you miss the last 100 Park & Ride bus to the George Junction just catch a Stagecoach route 1 or X1 bus which stops just across the road outside the George Pub. You can also catch Stagecoach route 2/2A to Milehouse Park and Ride. These buses will drop you a short walk away, just across the road on Alma Road (opposite the Life Centre carpark). Your Park & Ride ticket will be valid on these services.

Timetable: Exeter - Totnes - Dartmouth – Salcombe

We have additional buses running for Dartmouth Regatta on Thursday 27th, Friday 28th, Saturday 29th August. These additional services will operate at the following times:

Service X64

Additional buses will leave Totnes for Dartmouth at 2050 and 2250.

From Dartmouth, there will be additional journeys at

2150 from Dartmouth to Totnes

2350 from Dartmouth to Totnes and Newton Abbot.

Phew!

If anything the next edition of DT in two weeks time will be even bigger!
