.Plenty there for now, although some of these look like a bit of a tidying up exercise more than anything else as some relate to routes long closed!

I will be looking more closely at these over the coming days once all becomes clear.

  1. Well it would be 3 months since last change. Like the old FIRST isn't it?

  2. I think the 34/42 is the easiest to predict what the changes are - my money's on one of the two serving the Royal William Yard and Durnford Street completely, taking over from the other one. I hope it's the 34 that gets put back down this stretch though!

40/41 have route and timetable changes, 43 just timetable changes. Perhaps these are being split to be separate services again with the 40/41 route change being to operate via Mayflower Street and Western Approach again rather than Drake Circus, as really it was only sent down Charles Street so it would be on the right side of Royal Parade to take up a 43.

35 has a timetable change but the 16 doesn't - again maybe these two are being split?

What's more interesting is the 20A. It's included with the 'normal' 20 registration but also in 'Operating between ROYAL PARADE and DERRIFORD HOSPITAL given service number 29/20A'. No idea on this one! The route page for it still says though:

    'Start Point Plymouth, Royal Parade
    Finish Point Plymouth, Royal Parade
    Via Woodford, Plympton'

The rest of it would certainly appear to just be a bit of tidying up; and deleting old routes from the system that finished many many years ago! Other things we can see are the 30 is withdrawn - not surprised really given the increased frequency & deckers on the 29. The evening trips at present come off the 129 to Horrabridge which runs dead to Derriford for the 1710 30. 14D/26A say they're withdrawn - I wouldn't be surprised if the 14D at least is numbered into the 21/21A.

    1. I expect the 29/20A should read 29/29A. Probably a typo as there is also a 20/20A listing.

  4. What's the route change to the 5/5A, more of Plymstock to be served?

  5. Citybus aren't doing themselves or the travelling public any favours by keep changing things like this. Seems excessive to me and I wonder whether its a case of someone justifying their job???

    1. Not knowing the detail of these changes it's hard to say, but with the strict regulations on punctuality now these may just be adjustments to suit current traffic conditions. Does that do the travelling piblic any favours, hard to tell. If the bus is scheduled at 5 past but usually arrives at 10 past should the timetable reflect that? Or is all the customer angst over service changes, all the cost of new publicity, the cost and disruption of (possibly) new duties really worth it for 5 minutes?

  6. There seems to be a complete withdrawal from Plymouth College and City College (CFE) services) - I wonder if there is a problem maintaining out-stations in some places. Unless, of course, some of them are going to be replaced by full registered services .....

Some of the cancellations may be a tidying-up exercise - but, surely, if the service ceased to operate but the registration wasn't cancelled, could not the TC be after them for failing to run a registered service? With a PI and a juicy fine, of course.

  7. Howcome it mentions about service 78 (Bodmin) and 97 (Tavistock), they went years ago!

    Bill.

  8. Regarding punctuality, it should be remembered that there are many reasons why a service can run late, but NONE AT ALL for running early. 8 and 9 you need to watch your depaarture times from Royal Parade.

    1. As a citybus driver, I'd like to say people don't realise I think that all buses these days are tracked by gps, also some stops elburton primary for example have transmitters so if a bus runs early it is flagged, I don't know of ANY driver that ever runs early! Also the 8/9 leave from outside the citybus shop where the radio system/managers and inspectors reside. I guess people may see a bus leave "early" when it is actually late, the 8/9 run with the 23/24 at the moment they are experiencing delays on to thill road then throwing drake circus as well and you can see how late they get.

  9. most of the stuff on vosa is old stuff which they haven't removed. ie, some schools night buses. changes to 5/5a was from last set of changes. the only reason pcb are changing things is to protect their territory and keep the business viable. first, or any bus company in a major city would do the same.

  10. Single, return and Dayrider fares are going up again at the same time

    1. Yeah funny how its the poor customers who already have the expensive fares made to pay more isn't it? Fares over £3 return going up? That would be Southway, Whitleigh, Plympton etc, the outer estates...oh hang on, is that where First aren't going as yet ? Meanwhile the inner/lower fares stay the same, where First are competing..Funny that!

We need First in Southway etc please if you are reading this at the Ride.

  11. fyi the adult dayrider is going up to £3.70 on 20th april. some singles are going up by 5p and some returns by 10p. these go up on 9th march. so hardly going up at the same time is it!

  12. A quick look on Traveline shows the 27 returning to half-hourly, but only running City - Deer Park. And there is currently no sign of any daytime services up Shallowford Rd or to Mainstone, but I'm sure more will become clear in the coming weeks.

  15. Prehaps the Scanicas will go for the 20A with 4 of the Enviro 200s on 45. Prehaps 20A/45 will interchange with Enviro 200s on both.

29A and withdrawal of 61A makes more sense is back to the route the 43A used to do, so people are used to it. Possibly CityBus have seen the first 3A making little impact on them so the 61A matching the route has become no longer useful.

Breaking up the 40/41 and 43 does make more sense and will sort out timing issues. 34/42/42A changes make sense reverting it back, evidently 42/42A to RWY didnt work!. Withdrawal of 30 was always on the cards sin ce last changes. 14D and 26A are just minor and low use routes going too.

27 to Deer Park and 28 no change will mean more services into Deer Park. The changes to Mainstone number and the additions of A and B to 28 is probably logisitcal and timing issues

By the way, I suspect when bus 40 was on the 45 it had been drafted in to replace a broken down vehicle earlier in the day. It might not be, but just a thought!

  16. This is starting to get pathetic. Why are they changing perfectly good routes?

Just as it becomes established and passengers are able to develop a routine. The route changes.

Starting to think Pauls comment regarding job justification is actually true!

    1. To be fair, the 5/A has changed due to complaints in St Stephen's regarding the number of buses; and it reconnects people living along Callington Road in respect of the loss of the 30; the 43/40/41 received complaints due to reliability of the interworking; the 61A never really worked due to complaints about not serving St Budeaux, the 27 goes back to it's previous routes due to complaints from Deer Park, and 34 received complaints about not serving Stonehouse. So they are going back to the established routes that people wanted.

The 20 is operating a one way loop around Plympton, though it loses Chaddlewood, but that gets replaced by the 20A, which has taken over from the 180 due to complaints that Citybus didn't serve Lee Mill with the 45.

The worst outcome is the mucking up of Honicknowle, Brake Farm, and Fort Austin - again.

  17. If you look at these new changes, they show a strong resemblance to how the network was before the big November 2012 revamp.

I am very pleased to see the 34 back down Durnford Street and the Royal William Yard, and the 40/41/43 being split.

The loss of Chaddlewood on the 20 is something I am not at all surprised about - barely anyone uses it past the Ridgeway and I'm very surprised this wasn't implemented earlier.

Eggbuckland however, are major losers in this - they won't be pleased at all.

    ReplyDelete
  18. not that many people use the bus in eggbuckland. its very car dependant. compare it to the 21 21a! if eggbuckland was as busy as the 21 21a, then they would have a service to match demand. that's what its all about.... supply and demand.
