Plymothian Bridges 26: Novorossisk Road

This is a very handy footbridge as it links Estover to Leigham. This bridge means we can take our son to school without having to walk along a busy main road or cross any busy roads at all. Its a nice elegant design to carry the footpath and is just down the road from the new road junction which was rebuilt a few years ago.

 

The Fifty

Terry has been busy posting pictures with a great new set of long distance photos. This one caught my eye, partly because I think its a great shot, but also because its where I live. My house is actually hidden by the trees on the lower left hand side of this photo which shows 'my bus' the 50 turning from Keswick Crescent onto Miller Way where it will then make a sharp turn left onto the Asda complex. With a full load this hillcan take a while to climb with the older step entrance Darts being struggling the most. The Volvo double deckers seem to find it a lot easier! although these are rare these days.

Boots Distribution

Boots have had a distribution centre in Plymouth for quite a few years which is up on the Estover Industrial Estate. This will change though in 2009:
Up to 65 jobs are to go at a Plymouth warehouse in 2009 after retail giant Boots announced that it was investing £70 million in a new automated warehouse operation.The creation of a state-of-the-art facility at the retailer's Nottingham headquarters will eliminate the need for 17 regional warehouses, which will be replaced by a similar number of smaller lorry-docking facilities.

Plymouth City Council

Plymouth City Council operate a Bulk Waste Collection service using a small fleet of these very useful DAF 45 high sided tippers. Back in the early 1980's the Bedford TL was the favoured truck followed by a spell of buying Ford Cargo trucks during the second half of the 1980's. By the early 1990's Plymouth had moved to Leyland -DAF for most of its larger truck requirements and this has continued to be the case ever since. Current new trucks are mostly based around the DAF LF truck range.
V985ETT is allocated fleet number 027.005 and is a DAF 45.150 new in November 1999 and is seen at the bottom of Keswick Crescent, Estover
