Western National's no. 2107, a Gardner-engined Bristol FLF Lodekka, seen in Plymouth on Friday 25th January 1980. Half the interest of such photographs is now in the background detail. The rebuilt centre of Plymouth still retains something of an authentic post-war look. Over the road at Collier & Co. there appears to be a solidly-constructed 1950s shop front, and the Post Office has a pleasing "slab serif" sign. Hanging baskets are not yet suspended from brackets on the lampposts, nor are there any flower tubs or black-painted "Victorian" litter bins with letters picked out in gilt paint. I imagine the honest-to-goodness flagstones have since been lifted and the authentic railings on the right also replaced by some fraudulent black and gold horror

Rob Sly's excellent web site gives the last recording of this bus as with Colin Billington January 2005 ‘derelict’ with a photo of the bus looking even rougher! It does look a bit ‘unloved’ in this photo but its still a great reminder of these wonderful buses. The streets of Plymouth were much poorer for their departure. |

Claire Pendrous has been posting some brilliant photos on Flickr recently and I have had my eye on this one since the day she posted it. One of the wonderful Bristol Lodekkas AUO519B seen at Torpoint back in 1982.
I am posting it here as a treat for myself more than anything to celebrate visit number 25000 to this little blog. I would never have thought this possible when i started! Thanks to all the regular visitors to this blog!
