Catching up on a few items over the last week or so
A double-decker Go Cornwall bus has crashed into Treliske Hospital this morning (Thursday, October 9). The bus appears to have crashed into a canopy at the entrance of the Trelawny Wing, which includes the emergency department. One witness has told CornwallLive they heard the crash and saw the bus hit the hospital just before 9am. They said: "I was sitting on the bench and heard a crash turned around and saw the bus go into to the front of the hospital".
Pictures taken at the scene show the top window of the double-decker bus completely smashed up, as metal poles have been left bent and trapped under the canopy. It is not known if there were any passengers on the bus at the time of the crash. A spokesperson for Go Cornwall said:
A double decker bus has clipped the canopy on the entrance to Treliske Hospital this morning. There was one passenger on board, no reported injuries. Management have been to the site and held a meeting with the hospital facilities team. An investigation is currently taking place.

Finally, a photos of 460 a few years back (December 2019)

This photo shows what happened, the usual drop off traffic causing the bus to have to mount the kerb. It's been an issue at the RCH for years and was an accident waiting to happen. https://scontent-man2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/558967283_1212710994215552_3758809433267719153_n.jpg?_nc_cat=102&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=127cfc&_nc_ohc=unQoP4MGoYgQ7kNvwE_X3A6&_nc_oc=AdmEgHmRjJKngkKXT8smbyVW5hQbV2fKxjniSlNEPMHeyCCIWO49aE48Xqkvw6cfE50&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-man2-1.xx&_nc_gid=LFemdKs-uFDJKqy4oB7DcQ&oh=00_AfdQX8I2UwJbASHDBuguJJEhqB188zRP4XCW98oDWfBkGQ&oe=68F6E717
ReplyDeleteGo Cornwall/Citybus are having a tough few months, more redundancies at head office, bus fires - several this year, bus crashes, loosing more coach work to other operators, poor service delivery with there new contracts, the uncertainty around fare increases. The management, for those Mr Stevens has not got rid off must be sitting very uncomfortably at present.
ReplyDeletewell, in the last 2 days, all 106 available vehicles have worked a service - which is something that PCB haven't needed to have done for a while (not counting 468). While they await the extra 9 Streetdecks to arrive April 26, they're going to have to get some extra resources in soon if they're going to have any chance of withdrawing the remaining MAN EcoCities let alone anything else...
DeleteDidn’t they bring back blue Scanias from Brighton? Are they being painted and coming out?
DeleteI heard the blue scanias werent going to be used due to extensive work needed on each of them to be fit for service
DeleteI heard dartline’s gettin a new genral manager round easter, some one from go ahead head office or sumthin, to try n build the company back up. The last one dint do too great. Dunno who’s runnin it now tbh, clearly hasnt been reachin out for work, but i rekon more redundancys are comin
DeleteI heard that aswell, whoever is running Dartline has failed big time and doesn't seem to know what they are doing, Tamar coaches and Tally Ho must be rubbing their hands
DeleteA little bit of an insensitive comment I feel , some of us know those affected by the publicised redundanciss in 2023 .
DeleteHaven't greenslades won dartlines work at sandy park
Deleteyeah i get that, everyone’s got their own take on it. lot of us know people who were hit by the redundancys, so can see both sides really. Don't mean that I don't agree with the other comments tho
DeleteGreenslades have won the Exeter chiefs team coach aswell as the match day shuttles, Dartline also recently lost all their DCC school routes
DeleteThe Exeter Chiefs' team coach (Van Hool Altano C111 EFS) now carries Greenslades legals instead of Dealtop t/a Dartline. It is my understanding that coach actually belongs to the Chiefs.
Delete2 Go Cornwall and 1 PCB 20 plate singles running on PR3 to RD&E in Exeter. Onre has had Go Cotnwall branding replaced with Dartline. Arent these E200MMCs paid for by Cornwall?
ReplyDeleteNo. The 18 plate ex first mini E200s are owned by Cornwall council , the rest of the 20 and 70 plates they can do as they please with
DeleteNope the ones paid for by Cornwall council are 2000 to 2016. Those ones were transferred over from first kernow at the start of the Cornwall contract
DeleteNo, the 20/70 plate vehicles for Cornwall are leased by PCB so can go anywhere. The 18 plate ones are owned by CC
DeleteBut isn't most the buses electric now like 99% so where are the old buses that the electric replaced can't they use them
ReplyDeleteAll 50 electrics delivered are in service. The older buses like the 06/57/11 plate deckers are in cornwall. Only old stock in plymouth are the 9 omnidekkers and then the 08 plate e200s. Only 4 out of the 13 gas buses remain.
DeleteI imagine that they've replaced some EcoCity's, Omnidekka's and 06-plate E400 (Through cascading... I.e. some E400 City buses cascading to Cornwall and then replacing 06's and the same idea in Plymouth), strengthened the network, enabling older members of the fleet to complete maintenance, dartline transfers , plus the handful of accident withdrawals... Decker wise it is rare to see anything other than an Electroliner, E400 city, Omnidekka and the odd 63/65-plate E400 in Plymouth these days, all of the older E400's are in Cornwall. I also think they should introduce the ex-Brighton Scania's, there's a lot of work but would bring needed capacity and enable with withdrawal of the Omnidekka's...
Delete49 of the 50 are in service.
DeleteAll of the remaining 06 are in Cornwall, along with the 4000s which were also due for withdrawal.
Gas contract runs out soon so the MAN buses will be unable anyway.
The Scanias from Metrobus are wrecked
7043 arrived yesterday- now all 50 are here!
DeleteDon't forget there is a follow-on order for an additional nine Wright Streetdeck Electroliners as more funding was made available. I don't know exactly when these will arrive but it should be in the first half of next year.
ReplyDeleteJust out of interest what is the situation with taking buses which are need a lot of work such as the ex Metrobus Scanias? Did Citybus have any say in the matter, if so then surely you would assess them first and if they are that rough, reject them. Or was it that it was more out of desperation or where they told to take them..be interesting to know!
ReplyDeleteGenerally, i think we can all agree that the operations down in Cornwall are getting absolutely battered at the moment. Franchising has been thrown around i believe? Something is going on to look into it perhaps? I'm interested to see how this will play out - as the buses which are only 4/5 years old down there for GCB are looking absolutely knackered, let alone the others.
ReplyDeleteSomething somewhere has gone wrong in the engineering department - i dont ever remember it being this bad - bring back Marc for First plz! ha!
What do you expect, you appoint a general manager who only knows about bus services and ask them to run a coach company, then the staff who know how to run a coach company you make redundant, great move. You then spend a fortune on rebranding instead of using that money to fix other failing areas of the business. Dartline was a strong brand before the acquisition. Such a shame.
