Plymouth

Citybus have published an update on their plans – with very limited changes by the look of it:

Plymouth Citybus are focused on delivering a reliable bus service in Plymouth. Over the past 12 months we have seen changes in traffic volumes whilst people settle into new routines. We have seen peak time traffic extended, meaning we need to make changes to bus timetables from September.

The only change to a bus route will be the removal of the loop around William Prance Road on the 42 service.

There will be no reduction in service levels.

For updates to our timetables please keep an eye out on our social media and website towards the end of August.

Devon

It is very clear from the service registrations that are starting to appear that Devon will see quite a few new timetables. However nothing is publicly available yet from what I can see. There are a few changes that will appear here over the weekend so watch this space

  1. It's poor cornwall that suffers again, compared to plymouth.

PCB/TFC , GCB or what ever name cornwalls buses have this week.
    Can't leave well enough alone.

The changes to the 11, okay if one gets cancelled you end up waiting 4 hours for the next one. The same with the 70s on sundays

they say hourly Trerulefoot to PLY but who wants to go there?
Could have put buses through St Germans then up to Trerulefoot but chose to not give St Germans a service,

Which incidentally has a half hourly train service,

    it could connect into.

The buses are busier then ever with the advent of the £2/ soon to be £2.50 fare.

They want us to use the buses and at the same time, make them so they are not able to be relied a pon.

We can't use or lose a service if they take it away when we try to back them.

It was clear in the beginning that PCB extending into cornwall was a bad idea,

Just look at the mess they made of north devon.

Instead of maximising profits, by cutting routes.

    They should focus on
A reliable network and people will give up cars for the bus.

I hope i'm not the only one angry about changes to the 11 route.

    1. Plymouth Citybus Ltd (which is Plymouth Citybus plus GoCornwall) made a £111,000 loss for the year to June 2022, so there's no "maximising profits" about it. And that's without the worst effects of inflation and Ukraine-induced fuel price increases. Expect this year to be an even greater loss.

  2. Ever since Go Southwest have taken over Cornwall the service has been in decline and reliability has also got worse. Why dont they think more logically about things and improve connectivity and reduce the servive numbers. For a start get rid of the 74 completely and just run the 73 from Callington/St Dominick directly to Polperro. Service 11 to Bodmin for connnections to Padstow. Service 75 and 78 reinstate and run from Liskeard station to provide more bus/train connections to Torpoint/Rame,Liskeard town and Launceston. Service 12 run direct to Callington Launceston and Bude and have a service 12A running via Stoke Climsland to Launceston. It is very sad that places like St Germans and Menheniot which once had a service now have nothing whilst Liskeards direct link to Saltash reduces to bare minimum. GSW need to realise its about what the customer wants and needs and not what they want. If they cant run the service or dont want to run it efficiently then maybe they need to return the routes and let another operator take them on. Compare this to Plymouth where no reductions are happening. As a fare paying customer who frequent uses the 11,73 and occasionally 75 services I am discusted of how Liskeard has been treated. I will now be either using the train or car in future. I realise this is quite negative but so many people depend on these services.

    1. Isn't the service still better than when First previously ran the contracted ones, such as on Lizard still far more frequent with better evening & Sundays? It is a rural area with few passengers in many areas.

      Delete
  3. So unfortunately, it's not actually GSW who make the rules on the Cornwall services, it's met by the demand on Cornwall Council. If GSW numbers show a lack of passenger use between stops, then there will be changes to routes based on that - however i don't understand the route number changes, which lets be honest have happened far too frequently of late. If GSW don't deem the 11 suitable, then they either need to remove it - or make sure connections to train stations along the route are sufficiently covered, as the only alternative is to use the train. I do agree with comments above about Routes and Numbering, but in some cases, routes are split to ensure connectivity and to reduce congestion affecting routes as much - something the 11 and 12 have always suffered from, with being long routes.

  4. Reading the above comments I wonder how many people realise just how good a bus service Cornwall has compared with other rural areas. Maybe they'll only appreciate what they had when it disappears. Unless you've been living under a stone for the past couple of years you'll realise that Bus operators and local authorities everywhere are in big trouble. The operators are barely staying afloat and councils have an ever decreasing amount of money to financially support services.
