Plymouth Citybus Fleet Update

Its not just the Dennis Darts that are being threatened with eventual extinction in the Citybus fleet as Mercedes Citaros are on dodgy ground too.

Citaro 80 WJ55HLG which recently had been demoted to the Training fleet has now been withdrawn.

its place in the training fleet will be taken by number 84 WJ55HLN

Meanwhile the first of other 03 Darts should be off for scrap this week. 67 WA03BHW

this was of course one of those that received the initial Go-Ahead livery. Not my favourite livery by a long mile, but it did look better on the Darts than on anything else.

167 LX07BXO, 168 LX07BXP, 169 LX07BXR,  170 LX07BYB

167 should be next to go to Hants & Dorset for the work shortly.

Finally for now we also have the imminent departure of a real survivor 416 PL51LGO the last of the East Lancs Volvos which as been sold on.

The last few of the Volvo double deckers cant have long left now. 440 was on the 50 the other day and didnt sound good, and took a long time to crawl up our hill – it was almost like watching an old Citybus Atlantean struggle.

    1. 82 and 83 have disappeared too. They're not trainers are they?

  2. I suspect with Go Ahead's new commitment we will see the removal of older buses much faster than before. The Citaro are known for being fuel thirsty and really Citybus hasn't wanted them for a long time, I wonder if PCB will copy Bristol with biogas or electric E400 City buses in the future? I would really like to see Citybus start to look a bit more standardised like Brighton & Hove. Interior wise the fleet has been a mess for several years with every new batch of buses having a different interior to the next.

    1. I suspect down here the preference will be hydrogen. I am sure I have seen reference to Plymouth wanting to be a 'hydrogen' city but I cant find where I saw it. With all the additional Enviro DDs and SDs replacing the Darts etc then Citybus will be looking a lot more standardised than for many years. Cant say Im that bothered about the interior patterns - as long as individual buses have one pattern throughout which as far as I have seen they generally do. Nothing like the bad old days of First, especially many of the VRs had multiple seat fabrics in each bus. To be fair they did tidy a lot of them up towards the end

  4. A new chapter for CityBus 69 - it has arrived at Lipson Vale School to be refurbished into an outdoor classroom

  5. Had a look at the new Citybus website yet? Try the timetables: the 5 5A now is City Centre - Elburton, no mention of Saltash, there are no less than 15 services from City Centre to City Centre - but you're already there! The 33 is different; it goes from Royal Parade to Royal Parade. The 42 has no mention of Tamerton Foliot, the 50 & 51 go from Derriford Hospital to Derriford Hospital, while the 71 goes from Saltash to Liskeard, no mention of Derriford which surely is the whole point of that service. Etc, etc; it's obviously computer-generated gobbledegook with no human intervention.
