Incoming Scanias!

Plymouth Citybus are expecting more second-hand buses from within the Go Ahead Group, but for a change they are not London B7TLs…

They are expecting to receive 4 Scania N94UBs with East Lancs bodies from Thames Travel. They are 451-454 PF06ENL,ENM,ENL,ENO

It is thought that they may be for a new route so it remains to be seen if they get standard swoop livery or something more ‘flashy’…

Public Transport Experience: Both the new 81 and the new 82 are shown as running via "Greystones" in the stops list. No sane member of the Sheffield public would agree with that.

The Man on the Lancaster Omnibus a man appears with a Kermit the Frog puppet that he attempts to place before the damaged bus in order to take a photograph. A policemen, with no sense of humour, tells him to hop it.

Transport Illustrated: It leaves Porthmadog with four railway lines, three of which are 1' 11 1/2" gauge, three railway stations, two of which are narrow gauge and also a touch of confusion

Public Transport Experience: Despite a barrage of criticism from the public and from its own staff, the PTE seems oblivious to the problems. The answer is always the same, "if it's on the computer, it must be right!"

Focus Transport: First has placed an order for 301 Wrightbus vehicles including 274 of its “StreetLite Micro Hybrid” buses, one of the most fuel efficient buses on the market.

Great British Bus Routes: Arriva 110 links Britain's second city with what was once the capital of much of England. Operated by Arriva, it runs every 15 minutes Mon-Sat daytimes, 30 mins Sunday daytimes and hourly in the evenings.

  1. Torpoint? Just a thought.
Are all the Enviro 400s here now or are there 4 more to be delivered?

    1. Unless there has been a change recently (which is always possible) then there are still 4 more due - I had heard March.

  2. Can I scent a Green Flash coming up? Now where would a flashy route be that has a vehicle requirement as low as four?

    1. I tend to suspect Green too - although I have no reason to suspect that over any other colour! I also suspect we are looking outside the City. A fair few tenders are up for grabs in both Devon & Cornwall - I am sure it wont be long before we start seeing who gets what and I suspect Citybus will grab a few too

    2. If it's a 'Green Flash', then the green coded routes on the map are Southway and Whitley; however the only route that uses 4 vehicles is the 14.

  3. So that would be the Hooe/Turnchapel route I would suspect. First can and WILL retaliate though I am sure deep into citybus heartlands.

    1. I'm not convinced. I am sure Citybus will eventually look at Mount Batten - but I suspect they would use DDs on that. I agree that First would hit back too!

    4. Anon 21 Jan 2014 10:26 and 10:35.... these two comments look like they are written by the same person judging by the poor composition and spelling etc. They are too difficult to read, do not make sense and really should not have been published.

  4. I wonder if these will go onto the 32 Torpoint service to help release double deckers!

  5. what possible new route could this be ?

  6. Could it not just be to begin replacing the N plate darts?
It seems a lot of routes are being upgraded to double deck which will take care of most of the batch of older stock, but some routes will not warrant that sort of capacity.

  7. Maybe for the 8/9. With First providing a cheaper service (ignoring special offers) Citybus may try attract people with newer buses.

  8. 118 as far as Okehampton

    1. The 118 is a Devon County Council tendered service, so, unless Citybus want to take the tender off Beacon Bus - which is most unlikely as they would then have to run through to Barnstaple - this is a non-starter. I don't get the impression that Citybus are into taking small companies on anyway.

Now Western Greyhound appear to be pulling out of the Callington service - on which they would appear to be carrying better loads than First - the way may be open to Citybus to muscle in on the 76. With a journey time of under an hour, even via St. Dominick, two buses would cover an hourly service; four buses could provide either a half-hourly service or else an extension at one end or the other. Launceston? Derriford?

    2. They would only have to run the 118 to Barnstaple if the county council want them to, according to the tender specification. Just because the 118 goes to Barnstaple at the moment does not mean it still will in April. We have not had official notification that this is the route for these buses but there are enough people telling me this for me to believe it!

    3. I jumped in too soon with the 576, didn't I? It looks as though what WG want to do is leave off the section between Launceston and Bude. The new registration is good news because, judging by loadings seen, most Callington passengers seem to prefer WG over First - probably because the route is more direct, missing out St. Dominick, the loop through the industrial estate and bumping down Fore Street in Saltash.

If Citybus really have got an eye on part of the 118, I wonder if they see a commercial possibility in a service from Plymouth to Okehampton timed to be in between the 12s. With a few short workings to Tavistock, this would give a 15-minute frequency over that section with alternate green flashes giving an hourly service to Okehampton. But is there really enough business to sustain an hourly service from Okehampton to Plymouth?

But there I go - speculating again!

  12. 118 to Okehampton citybus Okehampton to Barnstaple stagecoach from April new tender

  13. They may well be for the 8/9. Before May last year, when the 8/9 were merged with the 23/24 it required two buses; two for the 8 and two fir the 9. The 23/24 used to require three buses, which were 3 MPDs. When the 8/9/23/24 were merged together, the 3 MPDs were moved onto the 20, though have now gone onto the 14.

They could be for the 8/9, although there'd be VOSA Timetable changes for the 8/9 and 23/24 if that was the case to enable them to be separate services again.
