The 23/24 used to require three buses, which were 3 MPDs. When the 8/9/23/24 were merged together, the 3 MPDs were moved onto the 20, though have now gone onto the 14.

They could be for the 8/9, although there'd be VOSA Timetable changes for the 8/9 and 23/24 if that was the case to enable them to be separate services again. It looks as though what WG want to do is leave off the section between Launceston and Bude. The new registration is good news because, judging by loadings seen, most Callington passengers seem to prefer WG over First - probably because the route is more direct, missing out St. Dominick, the loop through the industrial estate and bumping down Fore Street in Saltash.

If Citybus really have got an eye on part of the 118, I wonder if they see a commercial possibility in a service from Plymouth to Okehampton timed to be in between the 12s. With a few short workings to Tavistock, this would give a 15-minute frequency over that section with alternate green flashes giving an hourly service to Okehampton. But is there really enough business to sustain an hourly service from Okehampton to Plymouth?

But there I go - speculating again!

KeithAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11828686.post-71916059639732850342014-01-22T23:59:34.309+00:002014-01-22T23:59:34.309+00:00They would only have to run the 118 to Barnstaple ...They would only have to run the 118 to Barnstaple if the county council want them to, according to the tender specification. Just because the 118 goes to Barnstaple at the moment does not mean it still will in April. We have not had official notification that this is the route for these buses but there are enough people telling me this for me to believe it! didbygrahamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01858408719372985035noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11828686.post-33150536173318052812014-01-22T18:54:26.798+00:002014-01-22T18:54:26.798+00:00Well the 9 could do with new buses as the ones the...Well the 9 could do with new buses as the ones they put on the 9 now sound like there gonna blow going up efford lane!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11828686.post-77199765763253219882014-01-22T12:18:11.428+00:002014-01-22T12:18:11.428+00:00The 118 is a Devon County Council tendered service...The 118 is a Devon County Council tendered service, so, unless Citybus want to take the tender off Beacon Bus - which is most unlikely as they would then have to run through to Barnstaple - this is a non-starter. I don't get the impression that Citybus are into taking small companies on anyway.

Now Western Greyhound appear to be pulling out of the Callington service - on which they would appear to be carrying better loads than First - the way may be open to Citybus to muscle in on the 76. With a journey time of under an hour, even via St. Dominick, two buses would cover an hourly service; four buses could provide either a half-hourly service or else an extension at one end or the other. Derriford?

KeithAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11828686.post-82079845074073109802014-01-22T07:59:51.756+00:002014-01-22T07:59:51.756+00:00It picks hardly anyone up on Cornwall side.
