Life after Plymouth ATK161W

Received this photo from my friend Pete Jarman recently:
Found this ex Plymouth Atlantean in a field at Wymeswold, Leics last week and wondered if you know much about its history? Open Top Bus website has it with Robers Tours, Hugglescote, Leics but I did see reference to it being attempted at preservation (couldn’t get links to work) Peter J

I am sure our friends at the PCTPG will know more about the status of this one?

  2. Hi RE 161 -Obviously it is an East Lancs Leyland Atlantean new to Plymouth in 1980 the last of the W batch it was also the last dual doored bus ever delivered new to Plymouth and also the very last to have a proper Plymouth registration (JY/CO/DR/TK) These registrations were not issued from X onwards when it changed to Devon registrations. It was converted to open top along with 159/160 to run the Plymouth tour on behalf of Guide Friday when this ceased they were sold off 161 went to Leicester city Sightseeing tour with Roberts of Leicester it then passed to McEwans of Mansfield in Nottinghamshire by 2010 but was gone after mid 2011 and disappeared of the scene. On 13th July 2013 it cropped up unexpectedly at the Rempstone steam and country fair but the photographer didn't know who the owner was when I contacted them that is as much I have been able to establish to date.
