Cornish Electric

Five of the 25 Wright StreetDeck Electroliners delivered to Plymouth Citybus were funded by the UK Government for Cornwall Council to work Transport for Cornwall services 70 and 70B from Plymouth to Cremyll.  These have finally entered service following testing to ensure they could safely navigate the ramps whilst boarding and exiting the Torpoint ferries.  They now join the Altas-bodied Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (EV25 BUS) placed in service by OTS on Falmouth town services in late May as the only electric buses in Cornwall.

Thanks to Mark Bailey for supplying these pictures of the new buses…

I can see I need to make a trip next week to try these buses on these routes…

  1. I have watched with interest as they gingerly depart the ferry at the Devonport side but must admit they look good. There were electrics on the 34 route last week this week seems to be back to normal.

  2. Fantastic photos. But sadly none are to be used on the 70s due to too much damage from grounding , there are no electric buses on the route now

    1. They will eventually be back on 70s. The buses are fine getting on and off the ferries as i observed on a trip to Rame the other day. Unfortunately it would appear l a select few drivers on the route have not quite mastered boarding and disembarking the ferries and it has resulted in some damage so im told. The Enviro E400s had the same issue when they started and still do sometimes.
With electroliners now going onto the 21s the Spark buses seem a sensible interim replacement for the time being.
