Rame Beer & Buses 2023

On July 1st between 11am and 9pm, we shall be operating a network of routes across the Rame Peninsula. These will radiate from Torpoint and Millbrook to take in many of the peninsula's pubs and bars, with the service being provided by classic buses from the 1960s to the 2000s. You dont have to visit any pubs, you are more than welcome to join us for a ride! All buses are FREE.

Following on from the success of last year, this years event will also serve Wilcove, Hessenford, Downderry and Seaton as well as Torpoint, Antony, Crafthole, Polbathic, St Germans, Millbrook, Creymll, Kingsand, Cawsand, Whitsand Bay and St John.

While all buses are free, a souvenir programme will be on offer for a small sum, which will give you details of the timetables, pubs you can visit on route, and vehicles you can use to reach them, as well as other interesting items, and acting as a way of your thanks to the owners of these expensive machine

  1. Any news on the PCB fleet at the moment... Not a lot happening - any signs of the old scanias going as they're well past their life.

  2. Do like the Scania but are getting on a bit

    1. agree about the Scanias. Internally they are not in good condition but I still prefer them to some of the older London Enviros (those outside of the 4000's). Had one of the 4000's this morning on the 51 and it was so loud when going up hill you couldn't hold a conversation!

    2. Citybus are looking for investment from Go Ahead to update their fleet, it's been nearly 4 years since their last batch of new buses. Green energy is obviously a big part of the industry now, so Gas, Hydro & Electric, but may be some time until we see them down this neck of the woods.

  3. 100% - the scanias certainly have character but they are so past their best lol. i'm fed up of getting ex-london Enviros on the 34 every day on the way home from work.

    5. Nope I loathe then - annoyingly loud as well. Used to get them basically every morning on the 59. Glad to see the back of them

I actually liked them, I would have preferred the WJ65s to leave the fleet but each to their own.

    1. 2201 to 2211 are the only buses leaving, 11 buses not 17.
The return of 149/151/153-157/159 and eventually 147/158 will replace them.

2212 to 2218 are staying at GSW.

    2. So they're replacing them with buses we already have... so we all of a sudden have a surplus of buses? What happens to the routes which require shorter buses due to small roads, will we see the Solos?

    3. some fofthe buses are freed from the go Devon routes which were given up recently.

  7. You won't see sny new investment in PCB or GSW , both operations are just a dumping ground for second hand off cuts that no-one wants, history repeating itself, same thing happened with Western National

    1. The money that GSW makes clearly goes straight in the managments pockets or at least it looks that way when you see the sorry state some of the fleets in. 6001-6018 internally are a mess. Its such as shame as Citybus used to be a lot better and would retrim the seats on any new buses they would get. The 63/65 plate E400s (501-538) are particularly rough in places aswell especially towards the lower numbered ones.

    2. I can only say amen to that - even the first buses of the morning look like they have been cleaned overnight and are really dirty / full of rubbish.

Any one know of any plans to shift the Scanias or any other buses

6013 has had a full refit with the blue demo moquette used on ADL stock built MMCs like the ones in Cornwall, with many more to follow.
Would make sense to also sort some of the seat backs out.

    4. Seems so pointless on 18yr old buses but I suppose theres no replacements for them anytime soon lol

    5. Done purely because of the state of those seats they're certainly end of life and it's clear they put no more effort than a simple refit of the seat cushions only

  8. Some of the 2201 to 2211 series are already over the gravel it seems

  9. Looking on bustimes 2207 2201 not been out since last Saturday and 2209 long before that it seems

2201 2207 and 2209 are the ones currently withdrawn, I wouldn't bother editing this onto BusTimes as other enthusiasts just un-do the edit even though there is plenty of evidence from staff who work at the company.

    2. I did that on a fleetlist page during lockdown 3 for company i worked for at the time as fleetlist needed updating and i saw every veichle in yard. Only for someone to undo all my work so dont bother now

    3. That's because, at this point, they're still on the sheets and maintained

  10. The PCB Heritage Collection, err, sorry, bus fleet does indeed contain a varied selection of hand-me-down, which the company doesn't seem to take much interest in. Travelling regularly on the 60 route in Plymouth, we seem to get a different selection of clunkers each day. Today, I don't think this one's been on the 60 lately, it was 166, a 2007 Enviro 200... it's alright, it got from A to B with it's rock hard seats, but it did provide an opportunity to tick another box in my Ian Allan Book of Bus Moquettes as it still has it's East Yorks EYMS moquette, maroon-ish in colour with little sailing boats and steamers on. I guess it's still functional after all these years, but it seems to sum up most of PCB's incoming second hand vehicles in that they pay absolutely no attention to the interiors when they arrive at Milehouse and susequently in service. But then PCB certainly isn't a customer orientated business so I presume they just don't put any thought into the customer experience side of things.

    1. Anyone know why 61 / WJ52 GNZ still appears on the PCB Fleet list on their website? Looks like 251 is still on there as well so needs an update...

Also does anyone know what's on the gravel at the moment - not in the area at the moment so can't check.

  11. Andrew you've made me chuckle there - you're not wrong though. The ex EYMS E200's might as well be prison buses - they rattle like hell and the seats as you said are rock hard.

  12. Why did the Citaro's get put into the training fleet? Surely they're still in a better condition than some of the E200's we have?
