Devon & Cornwall Transit 2022 Week 38

The weekly look back on what has been published on the Registered Local Bus Services site over the last week. As always click through for more details including timetables and maps.

At least we seem to have left the September changes behind us and all of this weeks notices are for upcoming service changes dominated by Stagecoach for the end of October. As you can see from the amount of red below, there are a lot of cancelled registrations. Whether any of these are likely to be replaced by new registrations remains to be seen as I suspect there will be a lot more changes to come. However it does appear that there are quite a few cutbacks in services coming up…

Linden Holding (MD) also cancel a couple of their services.

Most (but not all) of the new timetables are available on the route pages by clicking through above. A couple of timetables have yet to appear on Traveline.

There will also be changes to the open top services at the end of the season

Open Top Services:

To coincide with the end of the peak holiday season our open top services will be paused or reduced:

Service 95 (Exmouth – Sandy Bay)

Service 95 will be reduced to operate a limited service Monday to Friday daytime only. The new timetable will operate throughout the Autumn and Winter, ahead of the full timetable resuming in 2023.

Service 222 (Dawlish Warren – Teignmouth)

Service 222 will pause operation until the start of the new season in 2023.

Service 122 (Babbacombe – Devon Bay via Torquay and Paignton)

Service 122 will pause operation until 2023. While there will be no direct service to Devon Bay, Services 12 and 120 continue to stop nearby on Dartmouth Road (Waterside Shops), with all other sections of the route served by other frequent services.

    1. I'm guessing so - but no new registrations have appeared yet

  2. The only real cuts are to sever Barnstaple to Exeter with 5A,5B and 5C all going bar one peak journey each part way and the 155 between Tiverton and South Molton is gone. The RED is gone but replaced by a 4 every 20 mins Cranbrook to St David's and a 4a every 20 Airport to st Davids so arguably better. The 6 is split in Okehampton with 25 min waits each way which is poor, but many Exeter routes get frequency increases. Basically resource moved to where passengers are.

  3. It's not looking good for the Stagecoach routes in Devon. Stagecoach have withdrawn loads of services in Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire leaving whole villages and towns without a bus service at all. It looks like Northamptonshire are next on there hit list with major changes coming there

  4. So all we are left with from Plymouth to Exeter is the X38 service which is a dreadful service maybe they can put extra busses to replace the falcon

  8. Falcon is just reregistered as one through plym to bristol reg rather than the split one. Timetable unchanged.

  9. Not quite right actually. A look on TravelineSW does give a new timetable for the Falcon! However whereas the route is presently split under multiple registrations it will no longer be so.

  11. Agreed Falcon is being moved to Comfort Del Gro. However, the cancellation and cuts to bus services - is this a result of the traffic commissioners 10% licence cut following the 2019 Gold incident.

    1. That is an instance again of a regulator making ridiculous decisions that have major negative impact on the customer rather than the company involved

    2. No its nothing to do with the licence cut as they dont use that manh buses already. In Exeter the city routes use the same number of buses after October with increased frequencies. The Exeter to Barnstaple route cuts will hopefully mean enough drivers to run thr new timetables elsewhere. Which makes sense as they are not money earners usually very lightly loaded.

    1. It appears not - most people would take the train for that journey anyway.

  14. Is the 155 not a Devon CC contract? If so has the CC decided to pull the plug or has the contract been won by another operator?

  16. I don't believe half of this is down to covid but poor management. What a shame that the previous management (well two managers) ago built the company up into North Cornwall and Somerset and these last two clowns have completely messed it up! The Gold bus crash only proves how bad the company management is.
