Devon & Cornwall Transit

Today would be the ‘normal’ look back at what service changes have been published on the gov web site over the last seven days. Well its nice and easy this week as no changes have been registered at all.

That's not to say that no changes are outstanding as there clearly are quite a few Stagecoach changes at the start of January and I am sure there will be others which have not been published yet even though they are happening. If and when any of these changes actually get registered then they will be reported here. With COVID very clearly still with us I guess the current relaxation in the rules will continue well into next year

So let me just take this opportunity to wish all my readers a very happy Christmas.

As posting remains sporadic at best at the moment I wont be taking the usual proper Christmas break, if something interesting does occur then I will post it!

Santa Bus!

Its not a brilliant video as it was running a bit late so was darker than I had hoped - but it does show off the nice lights on the side of the bus as it passes me on Keswick Crescent this evening. Well done Plymouth Citybus!

There are clearly quite a few changes that have not yet appeared on the web site including new service registration by Oakley's and the corresponding loss of services by Stagecoach, although many of their changes don't seem to make it through at all, or at least they take a lot longer. There are also a few more timetable changes due for Go Cornwall in January.

Stagecoach Timetables

3 January 2021 Timetable Changes

New Year,  New timetables

Just to give you all a head’s up, we’re introducing a few new timetable across our network from 3rd January to see you into 2021. Many of these are minor changes which will simply see a few of our timing points removed. A timing point is a stop where the times shown are not estimated, but dedicated times the bus will arrive at the stop. By taking some points out along some of our routes we’re able to keep our buses moving more easily between stops.
We’ve got some great news in Plymouth; we’re introducing a new timetable on our popular 2 route, connecting Mount Batten and Saltash to Plymouth. We’ve added more buses to the route, meaning we’ll be running every ten minutes across peak times.
You’ll also see that some of our other timetables have a slightly different look and are marked as reissued from 1st January. Don’t worry the times haven’t changed on these, we’ve just re published everything for the New Year.
Here’s a full list of the route changes and links to your new timetables:

Plymouth
1 Tavistock Bus Stn - Yelverton - Derriford - Plymouth City Centre: Some timing points have been removed.
2 Mount Batten - Plymstock - Plymouth City Centre - Saltash – Latchbrook: Some timing points have been removed. The frequency of buses has been increased to a 10 minutes on the common corridor.
101 The George Park & Ride - Derriford - Plymouth City Centre: Some timing points have been removed.
200 Plymouth City Centre - Coypool Park and Ride: Some timing points have been removed.
Falcon Bristol - Bristol Airport - Taunton - Plymouth Coach Station: The Kiln Roundabout timing point has now been replaced by Barrow Common.
13, 14, 17, 18, 32, 39, 52: These routes will now be run by another operator.  (Plymouth Citybus)
Exeter
UNI Exeter University- Exeter City Centre – St Lukes Campus The frequency on a Sunday morning  has been slightly reduced due to a lack of demand.
X Whipton  Village . Bus Station . Beacon Heath . Pinhoe . Honiton Rd Park & Ride:The route has been altered to connect with the Y service on Sunday mornings
58C Exeter - Brixington -  Budleigh Salterton - Bicton College: The afternoon journey has been re-timed

Just dont try and find these on the awful Stagecoach web site – at least I cant see them!

Devon General Light Six Appeal

News release from the Devon General Omnibus Trust

DGOT appeals for funds to acquire unique Devon General ‘Light Six’

The Devon General Omnibus Trust has launched a fundraising appeal to help it purchase a unique Devon General bus – ETT 995 (DR705), the sole Saunders-Roe bodied ‘Light Six’ AEC Rebuild.

DR705 has a remarkable story. In 1953, faced with a need for extra double deckers, Devon General’s workshops married the mechanical units of twenty 1938/39 AEC Regals with reconditioned AEC Regent chassis and had them fitted with new double deck bodies. Their unladen weight of around 6 tons led to the term ‘Light Six’. Nineteen of them received Weymann bodywork, but DR705 received a Saunders-Roe body and weighed in at just 5 tons 19 cwt.

DR705 has been owned by Steve Cope since 2004 and the DGOT says he has restored it to an extremely high standard. The Trust is grateful to Steve for the opportunity to acquire DR705 and hopes that Devon General enthusiasts everywhere will support its appeal to help keep this special bus in Devon.

To donate to the DR705 appeal, visit dgot.org.uk or contact the Trust at enquiries@dgot.org.uk. The appeal is open until 31st January 2021.

Plymouth City Tenders

From Plymouth City Council

Seven of our 13 financially supported bus routes will be run by new operators from January 2021, following a recent tender process.

Plymouth Citybus will take over services 13, 14, 17, 18 and 39 in the New Year and restart the Bovisand ‘beach bus’ (service 54) in the May half term. Oakleys Coaches will be operating service 52.

The remaining subsidised services – 2A (Elburton-Sherford), 19, 31, 42 (Mainstone), 42/42D (Seaton Neighbourhood) and 44A (Whitleigh-Camels Head) – will continue under their current operators.

Following feedback from passengers, services 17 and 18 will run into the city centre again (every other hour) and the number 18 will serve Nightingale Close instead of Candish Drive.

Service 13 will continue to run morning buses between Barne Barton, St Budeaux and Marine Academy Plymouth, replacing the link previously provided by service 32.

Councillor Mark Coker, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Infrastructure said: “Most of the city’s bus services are run commercially but there are some that we financially support, to ensure residents can get from A to B and access the local services they need.

“We’re really pleased to have been able to retain a comprehensive network, as well as reinstate a direct link into the city centre for residents in Hooe and Elburton.

“Providing reliable bus services for people to get to work, school, shops and medical appointments is really important – not just for those without other transport. It’s about offering real sustainable transport choices, supporting the city’s recovery and our commitment to tackling climate change.”

Stagecoach 47088 WA04TXC

It seems that the ex London E200s will be used on the new services, once they have been converted to single-doors.

Dennis Darts–The remaining 54’s

Part 3: It is clear that days of the Plymouth Citybus Dennis Darts are numbered, even if they have lingered in service a little longer than expected. A few pictures from the last few weeks of those that are left still working. (Less of these observed than the earlier batches!)
