In The News

Bus drivers were at the wheel illegally because paperwork at an Exeter training centre was faked, it has been claimed. Certificate of Professional Competence cards (CPCs) were signed off without tests being taken, whistle-blowers told the paper. Stagecoach Devon said it has conducted an inquiry, two people have been sacked and all paperwork is now in order. Every professional driver has to have an up to date CPC. To maintain it they must sit five separate training sessions each year or 45 hours of training in four years. One Echo source claims drivers' names were sometimes picked at random by trainers who were employed to keep licences up to date. But instead of training drivers, staff went shopping or drank coffee, the source said.

Stagecoach Devon confirmed that two members of staff were dismissed but insists its practices are up to date. A spokeswoman for Stagecoach confirmed they had recently undertaken an internal investigation into their training practices. She said: "We are committed to the highest professional standards across all parts of our business. We have recently completed an investigation into historic processes in part of our driver training school in Exeter. 1. I suspect that the changes to Stagecoach 56,58,98/99E, 157 & 357 are connected with the closure of Exmouth Bus Station after 10/7/17. I would have thought that service 95 would have been involved as well. The site of the bus station and associated garage is, apparently, owned by Devon County Council and they have sold it so that a new M+S store can be erected there. Very few buses actually use the bus station, apart from positioning journeys, so the closure should have little effect. Those that currently use the bus station will stop outside the leisure centre nearby.

There is a train station attached to the bus station and I assume that it will remain where it is so that it stays close to the railway.

  2. That's correct and it's all connected with the forthcoming closure of the Bus Station in Exmouth. The 95 and 57 journeys that use the Bus Station are also included but for some reason the TC took quite some time to grant short notice.

Although the site is owned by Devon County Council, it was Stagecoach who sold their lease, and hadn't found a site for a replacement garage. They have apparently been looking at alternative sites but to no avail. Or is it Stagecoach trying to do things on the cheap and it blowing up in their faces. The railway station continues as normal.

  3. If the garage is closing too, where are the buses being reallocated to? I'm not locally based so not up to speed with developments such as this.

  4. Weekly Skipper ticket £18.30. 4 weekly £65.60. Starts 4th July. Buy on bus operators web site at Citybus shop or on bus with Stagecoach. Not bad if you. Currently use PCB as only £1 more than their weekly anyway

  5. Total change of subject,I have concerns for the Staff on Strike Long term at Weymouth and Bridport Depots, I Totally support there pay Request of £9-50 an hour and would love to see them on £10-00 an hour by the Middle/ end of 2017,First on the other hand will try to withstand the situation as long as possible, apart from the 6 weeks of the school holidays accommodation for the Supervision staff and Strike breakers will be easy to find in June and up until late July,I hope the Dispute is settled soon, what is inevitable I think will be the Withdrawal of the X52,X54 and the 6 Service by Mid September I would also be concerned over the Bridport outstation ,All Stagecoach will do is divert the Lyme Regis service every other Journey through Beer if the X52 is Discontinues,as for the X54 the 4 Service will continue up to the Osmington Mills turning 4/5 times a Day and Wilts and Dorset /Damaroy will operate 5 Journey's a Day to Poole, maybe I'm wrong the Staff deserve the 9-50 Good luck to Bob Lanning and Unite.

  6. Yeah your Spot on With Exmouth, the Outstation in Dawlish will be Next I reckon with Torquay and Exeter sharing the Hop 2 Service,I reckon Plymouth Depot will Gain 2 More Gold Vehicles from Torquay so both Depots will have 4 each,2 of the X64 Vehicles will go to Dartmouth so that 2 vehicles will operate from each Depot giving Torquay Depot 6-8 Extra Spaces to accommodate the Vehicles off the 2...I would suspect October time maybe wrong.
