A Tendered Moment

If you are still waiting to try out the Plymouth Citybus 79 Tavistock to Calllington route then you only have a few weeks left...

2 May 2014

PH0000135/158 - PLYMOUTH CITYBUS LTD, MILEHOUSE, MILEHOUSE ROAD, PLYMOUTH, PL3 4AA Cancellation Accepted by SN: Operating between Kelly Bray, Parsons Green and Tavistock Bus Station given service number 79/79a/X79 effective from 31-May-2014.

Of course we only have half the story so far. This was a temporary contract to replace the service provided by DAC who sadly went under recently. It seems that more permanent arrangements are being put in place from the start of June. This route was of course joint with Western Greyhound so its quite possible that they will continue to operate the whole service from June. It is also possible that someone else has won the whole contract. I am sure it wont be long before we find out...

  2. Driving along Wolseley Road in Plymouth the other day I passed a Western Greyhound Dart with 'Welcome to Go Ahead Northeast' showing in the destination display. Probably the driver messing about with the display. Or does he know something that we don't!

    1. Nothing sinister if you consider WG had to get their hands on as many buses as quickly as possible following their depot fires.

    2. I think that Bobby should probably taken that display off !

  3. Re the Dart with "Welcome to Go Ahead NE" showing - I believe the display is stuck on that as it has been showing it ever since it arrived.

    1. Obviously too difficult to remove the offending defective destination unit from the bus then? Don't WG have engineers?

  5. The Dart in question was previously owned by Go North East when it was new hence the unusual display

  7. I wonder if Citybus has not put in for the 79 service so that they can use the MPDs on the 32 group beyond Torpoint. The alternative would seem to be double-deckers for both the Liskeard and Cremyll arms as I think most other Citybus single-deckers would have problems getting on and off the ferry at low tide. Double-deckers could have problems getting through Downderry in the summer; I remember some years ago the whole road being blocked because a Western National VR (from Polperro) could not get between a badly parked 4x4 and the low eaves of a house.

    1. Unlikely, as they could get buses easily within group or from the market. Either they were out bid by Western Greyhound, or they've let WG win it. They do share depot space after all!
