  1. Who is running Oke - Barnstaple Monday to Saturday? It will be good to see the link restored from Plymouth to Oke and full sized vehicles.

    1. This contributes absolutely nothing to the discussion - it is just a rant against Citybus and seems to be one of many similarly poorly expressed and not backed up by anything remotely approaching a fact. Perhaps this contributor would like to give us all a break.

    2. Too right.
PCB are expanding too much (getting more tenders in Cornwall too apparently). When they can't even manage to run all of their existing city services (look at how many buses have been off the road in Bretonside due to no driver this last month - the same as what happened last year), then how can they expect to be able to run more!?

    1. Totally agree. Worst bus service in uk and i have used lots
they should sort out their Plymouth routes before expanding elsewhere
they are always short of drivers as it is

    2. we are gaining tenders to earn money to improve the rest of the business. we have a stream of applicants and are going through them atm.

    3. One presumes you are gaining tenders to make more money for your shareholders. That is what you are in business for after all. If you weren't one presumes that you would be gaining tenders to increase your domination of the market further in and around Plymouth through the strategic winning of tenders at cost or even below.
You do not need to gain tenders to fund the recruitment of sufficient drivers. No bus company has any excuse for being understaffed on anything but an exceptional basis. If you do not have enough staff to cover your existing work, or the combination of your existing work and new work, then you shouldn't be expanding. That would certainly be the view of the Traffic Commissioner.
If you are an expansive business, as you state, then you should be making provision for having enough staff in hand to undertake your on going expansion, by having a buffer of staff.

  6. 370 was parked at front of Milehouse depot today (Thursday) in full Citybus livery and looked very smart.

  7. The 32 is waste of time and yet we still see Citybus are continuing with it?, can anyone shed any light on that? Millbrook and Looe i have heard about wont help much it will still be low useage. it annoys me seeing the 32s with 4x B7TLs on route wasted when on the 43/ 5/5A which i travel on are always full! Come On Citybus, Stop wasting time in Torpoint area and get some deckers on the 43/ 5/A!, 7 seater Taxis could run the 32!, Loads of people i know think the same and hate standing!, sounds harshbut thinking of the customers, many of which are elderly

    1. The reason that double deckers are used on the 32 route is due to the ferry. The buses on the 5/5a route etc will not go on the ferry at low tide where as the double deckers will. There is always a reason why certain buses are on certain routes. Now that Citybus will be running the service 32A in place of the 81C there will be more deckers being used over there and the 32A appears to be continuing onto Liskeard as per the latest VOSA details.

    2. In That case why are they even bothering with the 32, surely stopping it totally would be the better option,32A would be better gong through Saltash- would be more popular!!

      Delete
  8. I think the answer to this ia twofold:
    - the service is with Citybus because they won a Cornwall Council tender; it seems odd going to Liskeard through Downderry, but it may be that Liskeard is a destination people in Downderry and Seaton want to go to. I don't think it's a link that has ever been made before as the First/WG 180/580 didn't go down to the coast.
    - Western Greyhound are already providing a link between Plymouth and Liskeard via Saltash.

  9. Why is it such a big deal that the 32 is not heavily used, plymouth Citybus is expanding there network so as there is already another operator there it's not going to be popular straight away, if we remember when they went to saltash it was very underused but unlike first they tend to persevere and now has a fairly good footfall, I predict first will close there torpoint depot soon, it's been on the cards for years and this will be the tipping point, and run the 81 out of plymouth

  10. Several years ago First did continue some services (81C I think) beyond Torpoint to Seaton/Downderry and Looe but withdrew them because of low passenger numbers . A-Line also used to operate a Trago service via Seaton/Downderry.
