A short history of Gold

I have been catching up with the recent and upcoming timetable changes for all the bus routes in and around Plymouth. These are going on to my sister Plymothian Bus Services site as I get them sorted. One service which has registered changes is Stagecoach GOLD. The full history of this route (or technically three routes) is detailed below as it appears on Plymothian Bus Services, most recent details on top.

Introducing new EYMS Service 18 New EYMS service 18, which is only receiving funding from City of York and East Riding of Yorkshire Council's for some journeys, will provide a broadly two hourly service Monday to Saturday daytimes and continue the basic Friday and Saturday evening service. EYMS 195/196/199 (Updated) According to EYMS, the changes are due to funding cuts from East Riding of Yorkshire Council, as well as lack of use of some journeys. The services are mostly tendered. London Crossrail plans extended to Reading "It will also make better use of the already congested Great Western Main Line, freeing up capacity for further improvements including potential direct services from Reading to Heathrow as part of the Western Access Scheme."

  2. That might explain why Stagecoach have another 3 Scania N230/Enviro400 on order.

  3. Rumour has it that the three new buses are for the X46 service, which is now running using Enviros instead of Tridents

  4. The most recent service variation from VOSA (above) doesn't appear to be correct - Traveline SW shows the Totnes to Plymouth section as going to *half-hourly* in May. This would increase the PVR to around ten, so if the three Scanias on order are to Gold-spec, that would make perfect sense as they currently have 9 for a PVR of (IIRC) 8.

  5. Half hourly plymouth to Totnes for Paignton and Torquay and a hourly shuttle Dartmouth to Totnes

  6. I picked up a Stagecoach 'flyer' leaflet in Torquay yesterday, titled "Introducing our 2014 Torbay network changes" with a start date of Monday 19th May 2014. It says that new timetables will be available in print and online towards end of April.

For Gold it states: "Frequency increased to up to every 30 minutes between Torquay, Paignton, Totnes and Plymouth" and "New summer Sunday service to Dartmouth".
