Bus for Jobs in January

Another welcome initiative from Plymouth Citybus for January:

Are you 18 years old or more, been out of work for more than three months and are trying to find a job? Or perhaps you need to travel to job interviews or are looking for training? If the answer is yes, Plymouth Citybus together with Jobcentre Plus are offering a little extra help during early 2013. Plymouth Citybus is offering free travel for one month – from January 1 to 31, 2013 - for people who are 18 years old and have been unemployed for more than three months.

To qualify for the Bus for Jobs initiative and the free travel on offer please show JobCentre Plus Travel Discount Card to the driver. The cards are available free of charge from Jobcentre Plus branches. You’re eligible if you claim Jobseekers’ Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance or Income Support and are actively engaged with a Jobcentre Plus adviser in returning to employment.

Cardholders can make unlimited numbers of bus journeys on Plymouth Citybus' bus routes during January.

This is in fact part of a nation wide scheme

More than 800,000 unemployed jobseekers will be granted free bus journeys across the country in January next year as part of a new industry initiative, Bus for Jobs. Greener Journeys – the campaign to promote sustainable travel – has forged a deal with the UK’s leading bus companies to enable jobseekers, especially the young, to use their routes free of charge for a month. The distinctive deal – which will cover over 70 per cent of the nation’s bus routes – will give a helping hand to people who are actively hunting for work or training. Bus travel is the most popular mode of transport used by Britain’s commuters, with 5.2 billion bus journeys in the UK each year

The Bus People

It does state that First Bus are also part of this scheme so I am sure that the same deal will be available on First Devon & Cornwall services but there is nothing on their web site at the moment…

  1. Is this just for 18 year olds or is it an all age thing?
