Sorry for the lack of posts last day or so. other things on my mind:

Major reorganisation (or job cuts as they uses to be called) at Derriford Hospital. Found out that my job is safe (this year at least) - but many friends and colleagues not so lucky.

  1. Hey, your personal life is more important than posting news on Plymothian Transit. Hope all's ok.

  2. CHECK OUT CITYBUS WEBSITE.. THEIR FARE INCREASE MAKES FIRST LOOK CHEAP!!

20P ON ALL SINGLE,RETURN AND DATRIDER TICKETS.

WEEKLY ONE ZONE UP £1. MONTHLY UP £5, AND 3 MONTHLY UP £15.

IF FIRST DON'T HAVE ANOTHER PRICE INCREASE AS THEIRS ONLY WENT UP THIS MONTH, THAT MAKES FIRST CHEAPER ON ALL FARES BY MY RECKONING!!

  3. Anyone know now what the First Return fare is from Saltash to Cit Center, it used to be 3.20?

    Please let me know.

  4. Maybe First will win the "bus war". Usually prefer to use Citybus 5 & 5A over First's Ugobus 6 but won't if Citybus become more expensive, although Citybus do run later evening buses which is another reason to use Citybus.

  5. PERSONALLY PREFER FIRST... HOPE CITYBUS KEEP THEIR FARES AS THEY ARE. FROM SALTASH DAY TICKET IS £3.30 I THINK RETURN FARE IA ABOUT THE SAME.

£5 ON MONTHLY TICKET IS CRAZY, 17% INCREASE..BYE BYE CITYBUS!!!

FIRST ARE ENHANCING THEIR PLYMTOCK SERVIVES IN JUNE..SO NOW UGOBUS 2,6 and & TO CHOOSE FROM.

  6. It's a pity First recently withdrew their services to Southway, Honicknowle and Plympton as following both companies fare increases (First in May and Citybus in June)I think most fares will be cheaper with First..something they could capatalise on in their 'war' with Citybus.

I hope First don't now increase their daytickets, season ticket products and fares that were excempt in May...I feel they can gain extra regular customers here from Citybus as their season tickets offer more days for less money!! I.E 1 zone pass £35 PCM with First, £40 for 4 weeks with Citybus!!!!

  7. Thanks RE Saltash - I know that they were due to go up from between 5-20p, it was 3.20 out of Saltash so t would have gone up atleast 5p, so Citybus wll stll be cheaper here but the buses are probably worse, the likes of 10 and 12. But then again I've not taken first in over 3 years!

I hope Citybus don't fail, why are they doing this, increase?

  9. can't see why you would use citybus in Saltash to be honest...First are fare more frequent and operate longer hours??? personally I can see Citybus withdrawing from Saltash soon and leaving it to First. That and with the increased competition and lower fares they could well be on the way out of Plymstock and Devonport/Barne Barton soon too???

  10. To be honest mate, the reason I don't use first is due to several bad experiances years ago which made me stop using them, and from what family say this hasn't changed. They operate at the times that I need, on a frequency that is very convenient for me, and more people seem to be using them here.

In my opinion, I think Citybus needs a presence everywhere, which is why they operate the amount of services they do. I'd hope they work with Saltash first before pullng, but Saltash people don't tend to like change!

  11. Personal opinion I suppose...all I can say is we have both First and Citybus here and I believe First are far superior in terms of reliability and helpfulness of drivers etc.

First have improved lots in past few years...I cant see how Citybus can compete when their frequency is so poor compared to First in Saltash!!!

Not sure who has upperhand on that route...I guess it would be First though!!

  12. I am one of those people that feel sorry for the companies that have dead routes, some of the time I do see empty buses in an out of Saltash and it makes me quite sad (Citybus) as a company and PEOPLE are putting in an effort to provide a service to isn't being used.

I also find it sad seeing First buses empty which in all fairness isn't an uncommon sight, many of the early 3's I see leave St.B Sq empty (I'm a 26 user to)

  13. To be honest whilst I like the competion...I am sure it would make more sense to split the Plymouth area routes..inc Saltash between them, that way they would both run less buses and have less empty services, perhaps they could split it 50/50 or do route sharing with joint ticketing like in Oxford.. I doubt it will ever happen tho.

Perhaps if Citybus pulled their Plymstock service and Devonport (26) route that would leave an even split or perhaps they could stay in plymstock and wthdraw the 50 leaving Estover to First would could then incease the service tio every 15 mins and run eve/sunday service without citybus competition!!!

  14. I can't understand what First are doing in Staddiscombe/Elburton. First were for years were pretty well the sole operator across Laira Bridge on the eastern side of the City. These days however I feel that Citybus provide a more comprehensive service in the 5 and 5A plus Monday to Saturday they, between the two routes still run half hourly to Staddiscombe until 23.00 from Royal Parade, whereas First's Ugobus no 6 finishes at 20.20. This is a major consideration when needing to return after 20.20. The new First Ugobus no 7 does not appear to go to Staddiscombe plus it finishes at 18.05.

  15. I was recently told by a First driver that their new Ugobus no 7 is to cover part of the route of the Wembury 48 service now that it runs so infrequently. The driver went on to say that the new no 7 could result in the 48 becoming financially unviable if Plymstock/Elburton passengers switch to the more regular no 7.

    ReplyDelete
  16. the 48 is already financially unviable and has been for years, the only reason the new 7 and 6 are using furzhatt road is they need somewhere to do a loop, ugo bus is all about going soewhere direct doing a loop and coming back, which is why the 6 failed!

  17. Looking at the forthcoming timetables on the First website it appears that from 12th June the only way that travel will be possible between Staddiscombe and Elburton with First will be via Plymstock Broadway as the 6 goes to Staddiscombe and the 7 to Elburton. This means it will have to be Citybus between the two from now on. This cannot be correct surely?
