Plymothian Bridges - Number 9

Gdynia Way, originally uploaded by didbygraham.

Gdynia Way runs along the old railway line in towards Plymouths Sutton Harbour. There are a couple of bridges along this stretch but only this one is decorated as seen above. It was only when I was looking into the Plymouth - Gdynia Twinning Group that I discovered that the patters is a Polish design:

"The bridge in Gdynia Way is painted in a Kashubian (the region containing Gdynia) design, decided by Plymouth City Council from crockery designs from Gdynia supplied by the Twinning group"

As an aside from this, I am planning a sister web site to this blog where I will be looking into the transport history of Plymouth in much more detail. Plymouth Bridges will be one of the areas covered by the new site.
