It’s True ! , there is a badger coming to town ! And in some cases it has been 20 years since one of the entries last performed the regular daily route of the 80/81 service,

Are there timetables for this or just turn up as and when please?
ReplyDeleteWhy have they put screens on the Yutong single deckers so that people can't see out the front windscreen
ReplyDeleteThe Taunton ones have the same issue. Lovely buses but the screens ruin them.
DeleteWe shouldn't be buying Chinese Buses when there are British companies making electric buses
ReplyDeleteExactly. I've used the Taunton ones and they are truly awful. Try sitting at the back upstairs.
DeleteWe'll see how long they last; I'll certainly not be buying a Chinese vehicle, some real horror stories out there.
It's probably down to price and the poor quality of our established UK bus manufacturer. Bus operators need to achieve the best overall value for their money. Yutong products seem to be of a very good quality and it's a shame that the UK manufacturing industry cannot match that quality.
ReplyDeleteMight be cheaper but not in the long run. British jobs and the British economy these councils with there ZEBRA money from the British taxpayers should be made to buy British electric buses from Alexander Dennis
DeleteIt's unbelievable that it wasn't a requirement for ZEBRA money to be spent in the UK, or at least within Europe. It's critically important that we protect our own industries rather than allow highly state-subsidised vehicles from China, not just buses but cars too, to decimate other countries' manufacturing. Make no mistake, for this is their plan. I don't understand why people have to continually knock British products. Yes, it's been going on for years and we made a right mess of things in the 60s. 70s and 80s but current products from ADL and Wrightbus are up there with the best. If nothing else, operators are putting themselves at risk if spare parts become hard to get in a increasingly uncertain world. You get what you pay for, it's not all about the upfront price, especially when you want buses to last fifteen to twenty years.
DeleteNot only that, with Yutongs the internal fittings and auxiliary equipment are fitted by Pelican Bus and Coach, right here in the UK (Castleford, West Yorkshire). Pelican also handles the sales and aftercare (more British jobs!) and, according to industry insiders, this is second to none.
DeleteOn the other hand, Wrightbus, which is wholly British-owned, exports vehicles - including to China - and has a collaboration with Chinese vehicle manufacturer King Long.
Alexander-Dennis manufactures vehicles wholly in the UK and also has manufacturing plants and partnerships with other countries - including China. In 2019 Alexander-Dennis was sold to NFI Group, which is a multinational bus manufacturer based in Winnpeg, Canada.
Wrightbus products are definitely not up there with the best. The Streetlite is one of the worst buses ever built. They rattled from day one sooo badly, like a kid built them.
DeleteADL are better but the Yutongs do feel much more solidly built. Surely you buy thebest bus for the cheap, not a crappy one just because its British.
But why have they put the screen in the way so you can't see out the front windscreen it's awful
DeleteThings have moved on, Anon 22:49, the StreetLite dates from 2010 and was last produced three years ago.
DeleteI disagree, the Alexander Dennis Envro 100 and 200 electric buses are so much better more comfortable to ride in as well
