Fill it for Dave

A drive to help the homeless is being held by Plymouth Citybus in memory of a much-loved former colleague. Dave Salmon was a popular and passionate bus driver who sadly died last year. As well as being an excellent and friendly driver for 30 years he worked tirelessly for local charities - particularly supporting the homeless.

On Friday 10th May, Citybus will be creating a donation point at their Royal Parade shop from 10am-3pm to collect items for local charity Shekinah, who help those who have found themselves homeless.

Citybus hope to fill the entire shop window with donations at the event, called Fill It For Dave. The Royal Parade shop will act as the donation point where people can drop off items that will support the homeless community.

Shekinah have requested the following items as a priority:

  • Toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Soap
  • Wet wipes
  • Sanitary protection
  • New socks, knickers, vests and thermals
  • Hats and scarves
  • Non perishable food items
  • Sleeping bags

Richard Stevens, Citybus Managing Director, said: “Dave was popular with both his fellow colleagues and passengers all over Plymouth. His work supporting so many charities made him a well-known and respected figure in the city.

“We hope that on 10th May we can capture a little of Dave’s relentless community spirit, passion and empathy in aid of an extremely worthy cause that affects a sadly growing number of people. “If you have any of the items that Shekinah so badly need we would appeal to you to pop by say hello and drop off a donation. We would be very grateful - we’re hoping to literally fill the shop for Dave.”

Our Travel Centre shop can be found on Royal Parade opposite the Plymouth Guildhall. Shekinah is a local charity based in Millbay that works with the homeless and provides opportunities for people in recovery or seeking recovery. This may include recovery from homelessness, drug and alcohol issues, offending behaviours or mental ill-health. 59682378_10157518677459260_1028014260682227712_o

Dave was a true gentleman. Its great to see the company remembering him in this way.
